Edible Gifts, Recipes, Sweets & Treats / 06.12.2021

I love the idea of giving edible gifts to friends and family over the festive season. A box of Bakers Choice Assorted® makes a great stocking filler or hostess gift so I like to keep a few boxes on hand. If I have time though, I use my favourite Bakers Choice Assorted® biscuits to make yummy treats with like this this Nuttikrust® Apple Pie Fudge. With flavours of baked apples, cinnamon, white chocolate and Nuttikrust® biscuits, each indulgent bite is reminiscent of a slice of warm apple pie with a scoop of ice cream!Although fudge usually requires a sugar thermometer and...

When Cadbury launched their Limited Edition Festive range last year, I absolutely fell in love with the Dairy Milk Festive Gingerbread flavour (and gobbled up more slabs than I'd like to admit). This year, when Cadbury asked me to make an easy Christmas treat that kids would love, it was the Cadbury Dream Cinnamon Crunch I reached for. For me, the combo of creamy Dream and crunchy cinnamon bits brings to mind flavours of Milk Tart - and who doesn't love Milk Tart? To make these Blondie Christmas Trees, I've incorporated large chunks of Cadbury Dream Cinnamon Crunch into...

I always have a stash of Bakers Choice Assorted® around at this time of year, not only to enjoy with my afternoon cuppa, but also because they make a lovely gift! Why not individually wrap up a few of Mom's favourites in a pretty bag, pack a little variety box for your bestie or even gift a whole box as a hostess gift? Better yet, why not add a homemade edible gift like this Nuttikrust® Apple Pie Fudge? However you choose to share Bakers Choice Assorted® , the Bakers® magic is sure to bring a smile to your loved ones’ faces.Look...

It’s that time of year when delicious juicy Cherry Time™ cherries are in season! Just like last year, I was invited to visit the Cherry Time farm in Worcester. We had a short demo on how to correctly pick cherries (each stalk individually by hand!) followed by a stunning picnic lunch in the orchards. After that, there was time to pick as many cherries as we could fit in our baskets (with a few cheeky nibbles inbetween!).While admiring my harvest of juicy plump cherries, I got to thinking how gorgeous they look just as they are. So instead of using...

Golden Cloud recently added a Carrot Cake Mix to their range and its amazing! The best part is that the carrots are already included (in dehydrated form) so all you need to add to make a delicious carrot cake is oil and eggs. This cake mix is really versatile - you can make muffins, a loaf cake or even these delicious carrot cake sandwich cookies! They have a lovely chewy texture, with a bit of crunch from the oats and chopped walnuts. You could use any nuts you like, or leave them out altogether! Just as cream cheese icing makes...

This is one of my favourite desserts when I need something comforting that requires minimum prep. Not only is it incredibly easy to make but is also very forgiving. Don't have maple syrup? Use honey. Don't have hazelnuts? Use almonds. Don't have vanilla pods? Use a teaspoon of cinnamon. Don't have rum? Use Frangelico or port. You can really get creative with the ingredients and customise it just to your liking. I've made this recipe many times with slightly different ingredients, and each time it is delicious! All that's needed is a something creamy on the side -...

Peppermint Crisp tart. The iconic South African dessert made with 4 simple ingredients: Tennis Biscuits, Caramel Treat, Cream and peppermint Crisp chocolates. No matter how many variations I throw your way, you guys never seem to get tired of it - my Peppermint Crisp desserts are some of my most popular recipes on the blog!  This Peppermint Crisp Cheesecake is a slightly more grown-up take on the classic. A crunchy biscuit crust encases a mousse-like caramel cheesecake filling, topped with clouds of vanilla chantilly cream and crumbled Peppermint Crisp. The cream cheese adds a melt in the mouth texture with just enough tang...

Whenever I'm faced with a large quantity of ripe fruit that I can't get through quickly enough, I usually choose to A) freeze it or B) make a jam or curd. Since fruits generally contain a lot of water, their texture will change on freezing and defrosting. This is because the water inside the fruit cells expands on freezing, and the ice crystals rupture the cell walls. Once defrosted, the fruit will inevitably be soft and soggy. This is not an issue if you're planning on using the thawed fruit for smoothies, juices or sauces but if you're planning on...

What could be more comforting than a bowl of warm Malva pudding drenched in custard on a cold night? Amarula Malva Pudding, that's what! Malva Pudding is a South African favourite. Its not hard to see why! It's a caramelised spongy pudding flavoured with apricot jam and soaked in a syrupy cream sauce. Comfort food at its best! The addition of Amarula Cream Liqueur takes this dessert up a notch and adds that extra warm and fuzzy feeling. Ingredients: For the Malva Pudding:180g sugar2 large eggs2 tbsp apricot jam2 tbsp butter1 tsp white vinegar150g flour1 tsp baking sodaA pinch of salt100ml milk For the sauce:100ml cream100g butter100g...

A few weeks ago I was gifted a huge box of pistachio nuts from Wercon Boerdery. Brett and I devoured the roasted and salted pistachios in a matter of hours (so moreish!) but luckily I was left with several bags of beautiful shelled pistachios to create something delicious with. I immediately knew I wanted to make a pavlova - a dessert that for some reason has never appeared on the blog (these meringue nests come pretty close though!). In truth this is actually a hybrid between a pavlova and a Mozart cake. A pavlova is an Australian dessert made...
