When cherry season rolls around late November, I have so many recipe ideas that I can't wait to try. Whereas my Cherry Chocolate Mousse Tart falls more into the "dessert" category, these Cherry Cream Cheese Danishes are ideal to serve as a tea-time treat or a fancy brunch. The Danishes are best served straight from the oven (while the pastry is still crisp and the filling warm and bubbly) but what I love about this recipe is that you can make all the elements ahead of time, then simply assemble before serving and have them on the table in...

Today is a glorious day - it is Apple Pie Day! I've teamed up with Dutoit Agri to host an Apple Pie Bake-along this evening, where I will use their Golden Delicious apples to make my favourite apple pie recipe live on Instagram. The Dutoit family have been farming fruit for over 120 years, and now harvest over 130 000 tons of apples every year! They currently produce 13 different apple varietals, each one with it's own unique characteristics, and have a few more exciting varietals in development (including an apple with red flesh!). I chose Golden Delicious apples for...

Sponsored. Mille feuille literally means "a thousand leaves" and refers to all the paper-thin layers formed by the puff pastry in this classic French dessert. Although it may look intimidating, a mille feuille is actually not difficult to make. Nine times out of ten I will use shop-bought puff pastry, but when I have a bit of time on my hands, I find making my own really rewarding! So I have included both options here for you. Rough puff pastry is very similar to puff pastry in flavour and texture, but instead of using slabs of butter when folding, grated butter is used which...

Sponsored. When you can’t decide what dessert to have, I say – have both! This tart is a delicious hybrid of Baklava and Custard Tart. By combining the two into one spectacular dessert, you get to enjoy ALL the textures in every single bite. Crisp, buttery pastry, thick, creamy custard and crunchy, syrupy nuts. Not to mention the flavour combination of honey, cinnamon and that glorious vanilla flavour that you can only get from Ultra Mel custard! If you can restrain yourself, this tart really improves after a day of standing. This allows for the custard to set up nicely, and...

I'm a big fan of frangipane tarts and have been meaning to try a chocolate version for a while. Frangipane is a sweet pastry cream made with ground almonds that is usually used in baked tarts along with fruit. This pear and chocolate frangipane tart recipe is made with a chocolate pastry as well as a chocolate frangipane filling so it will certainly keep the chocoholics happy! With pears being in season and a wonderful companion to both chocolate and almonds, it was a no-brainer to use them in this tart. The result is a rich and sophisticated dessert...

These easy mini lemon tarts came about on one of those really manic days. I was short on time but had to prepare some snacks for book club. The savouries were sorted, but knowing my friends would be gobsmacked if I didn't serve any sweet treats I frantically searched through my fridge and freezer for some short-cut ingredients. Happily, I found some leftover pastry in the freezer (I always make a double batch for this very reason!), and a jar of home-made lemon curd in the fridge. Problem solved! In less than 30 minutes, I had cut out and...

This Rolo Pastry Braid is dangerously easy to make! Essentially it is just a slab of chocolate, wrapped in puff pastry and sprinkled with almonds and baked. Easy, huh? If you are a fan of chocolate and caramel together, then I'm guessing you love Rolo's as much as I do. You can now buy Rolo's in chocolate slab form, which worked out wonderfully for me in making this dessert. The chocolate and caramel melt together when baked, making the most ooey gooey, delicious filling. However, you could really use any slab of chocolate you like! Ingredients: (Serves 4) 400g sheet ready-made puff pastry 150g Rolo...

At the risk of sounding like a Masterchef judge, when it comes to food I’m definitely of the belief that flavour comes first. But when it looks as pretty as this Peach and White Chocolate Tart, that doesn’t hurt either! It’s amazing how just taking a little extra time to cut your fruit into shapes totally transforms a tart into a showstopper. Cookie cutters usually don’t come in sizes small enough for this purpose, but you can find a variety of fondant plunge cutters at your local baking store (usually sold in sets of 3). Like I said though, it’s all about...

Tastivore recently asked me to develop a super-simple Christmas dessert recipe for them. I decided on these striking Coconut and Lime Christmas trees! Not only is this recipe quick and easy, but it transforms a simple tart into beautiful upright Christmas trees. The good news is that the tart can be made ahead, and one tart makes 10 slices so its great for feeding a big table of guests. Both important factors when choosing a Christmas dessert! The flavour of the tart is much like a lemon meringue pie (without the meringue of course). The addition of coconut to the base gives...

This Chai Spiced Apple Rose Tart was inspired by the very talented Julie Jones. For those who don't know her, she is the author of The Soulful Baker and creates the most beautiful tarts and pies. I made a few adjustments to her recipe - I used my go-to shortcrust pastry recipe and added a generous amount of Chai-spices to the frangipane filling. The result is simply superb! A crisp, buttery pastry filled with spiced almond frangipane and sweet, slightly crisp apples. All the delicate work in making the apple roses certainly pays off when you present this gorgeous tart to...
